Quilts of Valor Round Up Donations

October 01, 2024October 01, 2024

We have integrated with the Quilts of Valor Round Up Donations program to allow your customers to have the option to round up their purchase to the next dollar. By enabling Round Up Donations at the payment terminal, you can give your customers a quick and easy way to support Quilts of Valor. The feature has no impact on your reporting, deposits, or daily operations, and all processing costs are absorbed by QoV. You can strengthen community ties and customer loyalty while making a meaningful impact, all without any added cost or effort.

Please Note: To use this integration you must be using Like Sew Payments with the Adyen processor and the P5 terminal. It does not work with Stripe.

Activate or Deactivate Donations

All P5 payment terminals come with this feature automatically enabled but you can easily opt out with just a few clicks if needed.  If you need to turn donations off, open the Profile page in your Payment Portal and switch off Third‑Party Donations.

Please Note: You no longer need to use the Admin Settings > Integrations > Quilts of Valor page to activate this integration. With the latest update, the setting above is all you need.

Once enabled, when running a card transaction through your Like Sew P5 terminal, the customer will be offered a prompt on the terminal to round up to the nearest dollar and it will show what the new total would be, as pictured below.

You will no longer see your Donations in the End of Day report since the funds will go straight to the charity. The customer will see the normal transaction amount as a separate charge to their card from the donation, which will display as Quilts of Valor Donation on their card statement.

Transaction Process

Transaction will follow this typical flow at checkout:

  1. You begin a sale in the POS.
  2. The total appears on the P5 terminal.
  3. The customer presents a card through the terminal for payment.
  4. If donations are enabled, the terminal displays the donation prompt.
  5. If the customer confirms a donation, the system processes a separate transaction for the donation.
  6. If the customer skips the prompt or the donation fails, no retry occurs, and the sale completes normally.
  7. After the sale has been completed, you receive funds for the sale, and the charity receives the donation.

FAQ

Q: Is there a minimum donation amount?

A: Yes. The minimum donation amount is $0.23 to offset transaction costs. If Round Up is enabled and the donation amount would be less than that amount, no donation prompt will be displayed. For example, if the transaction total was $9.95 then the round up amount would be $0.05 so the donation prompt would be skipped.

Q: Will customers see two charges on their statement?

A: Yes. One for the sale and one for the donation, clearly labeled with the charity name.

Q: Who covers donation processing fees?

A: The charity will cover their own processing fees.

Q: What happens if the donation transaction fails?

A: The primary sale still goes through as normal, and no retry is attempted for the donation.

Q: Can I choose multiple charities?

A: No. you can only link to the pre-configured charity for your industry.

Q: Do donations generate receipts?

A: No. Receipts for donations are not yet generated, but customers statements reflect the donation transaction.

Q: Who handles chargebacks?

A: Charities absorb chargebacks related to donation transactions.

Q: Are donations refundable?

A: No, donation amounts are non-refundable.
